An auditor paid by the audited is no auditor at all. We publicly fund the financial auditors of corporations and non-profits alike, so that no one grades their own homework.

One office, three duties

We split the enforcement teams out of the IRS and stand them up as the Auditor General’s Office of the Public and Private Trust — combining the three kinds of audit under one roof:

• Public government — the people’s money, accounted for.
• Private non-profits — mission honored, no private inurement.
• Private enterprise — honest books, honest markets.

So nobody cheats the system

One standard, evenly applied, catches the games that thrive in the gaps between agencies — like dressing up personal income as non-profit income. When a single office watches all three sectors, there is nowhere for the cheat to hide.
