Win Both Primaries
The key to everything is the primary. We register as both Republicans and Democrats, run in both primaries where the law allows, and fight to change primary laws to ranked-choice voting — putting progressive-libertarian ideas on every ballot.
The whole game is the primary
General elections are decided long before November. The real choices are made in primaries — low-turnout contests where a committed minority picks the names everyone else is later asked to rubber-stamp. That is where New Republic competes.
We register as both Republicans and Democrats and run in both primaries wherever the law allows. And where the law doesn’t yet allow it, we fight to change it — to ranked-choice voting, so every voter can rank every choice and no one is locked out of the contest that actually decides things. The goal is simple: put a progressive-libertarian choice in front of voters in as many primaries as possible, in both parties, so that no ballot is ever a choice between two machines.
Why this works
- Leverage. A handful of organized voters decides most primaries. Show up, and you move the outcome far out of proportion to your numbers.
- Reach. Campaigning in both parties’ primaries means our ideas are not trapped in one tribe. Good government is not a partisan product.
- Accountability. Incumbents who never face a serious primary never have to answer to anyone. We make them answer.
